My 1st Time
Oct. 9th, 2009 | 12:22 am
Don't know why I can't sleep.. Must be the after-effect of the sumptuous dinner prepared by my lovely sis! Lol.
This is my 1st time blogging from the phone & I think I still prefer blogging from the laptop :p
Very random but I'm so glad the weekend is here! Will be meeting up with Wen to look for her wedding heels after work :) I love such outings with the girls.. Men just don't know how to appreciate the joy of shopping.
Ok, time for bed. Hope that the work day will pass quickly!

COMEX

happy
I am feeling very pleased with myself now coz I managed to get a good bargain at the Comex which started today! I'd never gave a damn about such I.T fairs all along until now. This time round, I was actually looking forward to it. Initial plan was to go on Sunday but I reckoned that the crowd on weekend will be like 100x worse so I made a last min decision to head down straight after work. The crowd was horrible! It felt kinda weird to go alone as those around me were either in groups or pairs. After comparing Harvey Norman, Best Denki and Audio House, the prices were much more competitive at AudioHouse's booth. I was caught in a dilemma between the Sharp LCD and Samsung's. In the end, I decided on Samsung's as it has the USB 2.0 multimedia player function which Sharp doesn't have.
It was a real steal at $1,299 with free delivery (Harvey Norman charges $30), free mounting, HDMI and $100 Robinsons vouchers!
Anyway, my lunch buddy is now a H1N1 suspect and has to be quarantined :(. Another colleague is also quarantined as her son is a confirmed H1N1 case. Hope that they can get well soon!

Happy Birthday!
Aug. 24th, 2009 | 11:06 pm
After checking in, we had to quickly put up the decorations, pump the balloons and then rush out to buy stuff.
This is our 1st time in a service residence and the apartment was very well-equipped, it comes with appliances like rice-cooker, oven, kettle, bread toaster and even cutlery and utensils! All the TVs (1 in living room and 1 in master bedroom) comes with SCV too.
The relatives and friends kept asking how we managed to rent it and were very surprised to hear that it cost only $180/night. The highlight of the day was actually the cake. The silly girl was more excited about the cake than any other thing!

Based on the ID's schedule, they will be starting work on 29 July and hopefully will be able to complete by mid-Oct so that we can spend Xmas in our new home! =)

All pictures are from www.cherylshuen.com
All her cakes are intricate pieces of workmanship. Suddenly wish I were 21 again so that I can have one such cake too!

New Moon

Actually, New Moon is my least favourite book in the Twilight series because there's so little of Edward in it!

Today is the 'Eat With Your Family Day', hence we were allowed to go off early at 5pm! However, instead of going home to have dinner with my family, I headed straight down to UE Sq as Teka is having a 20% storewide sale. I think the sales assistant must be pretty pleased. Within 10 mins of approaching me, I bought a hob and a hood from her. That's $1,000 byebye. Of course I did not buy those 2 things on impulse. It was after much research then we decided on getting these 2 items from Teka instead of Mayer/Rinnai/Ellane etc. Actually there weren't that many choices either. Due to the size of our kitchen, we cannot get those normal 70-90cm hob, we need to look for something small and the 60cm hobs in the market are usually stainless steel but we wanted the gas-on-glass type. There's even this auto-lock safety device where by the gas will be turned off automatically after 10secs if the flame is extinguished accidentally (or intentionally by the suicidals). I was pretty skeptical when Hubby showed me the hood on the website as I felt that it looked old-fashioned. But surprisingly, it looked much better in real life. Very sleek with clean lines. I like! Furthermore the hood is on special promotion now! That's more money saved =)
Now, it's time to do research on my oven!

Goodbye & Hello

nostalgic
2008 is over in a blink of eye. Somehow I'm not really looking forward to 2009 maybe becoz (1) a new year means I am getting older; and (2) everyone is saying that the economy will be much worse. Nevertheless I hope that 2009 will be a much much better year for me and everyone!
Looking back at 2008, I guess the happiest and most exciting thing was that we finally had our customary wedding on 19 Jun =) 2009 will also be an exciting year for us as we will be getting our own home soon and Hubby will be back for good in Sep! Hopefully there will be an even better news but I'm not placing too much hope on it...
Happy New Year Folks & May 2009 Be A Wonderful Year for You & Your Loved Ones! =)

All About Fats
Oct. 1st, 2008 | 10:18 pm
mood:
happy
So now my priority is to reduce my body fat % to less than 20% and to reduce the amount of fats in me. I should concentrate on making myself fitter and stronger and not just to lose weight. One look and he knew that previously I had engaged in lots of cardio exercises. He said something very scary too. If I over-exercise on the treadmill, my body will start to store more and more calories for me to burn the next time, so instead of losing weight, I will gain weight instead! Thus I should cut down on the cardio part. Though it is nice to have a PT but it is very costly too, the minimum is $85/hr and this is on top of the normal membership fees that we pay. Guess I will be on my own after I finish the 2 free sessions of personal training..
Now I'm looking forward to my next workout on Sun! They should have a branch at Tampines.. Parkway is kinda out of the way for me. But luckily for the past 2 times I managed to borrow the car from Dad else I will be too lazy to go.
It's amazing how come non-working days seem to pass so fast ya? It's back to the office tomorrow again =(.

Isetan Private Preview Sale
Sep. 25th, 2008 | 11:20 pm
mood:
excited
Went for the Isetan Private Sale with my sis today. This is the 1st time we are attending it and gosh, it was SOOO crowded! I wanted to get some kitchen stuff for the new house as I have some vouchers. We are starting to buy stuff for the new house as and when there are good bargains around since the house will be ready pretty soon. I saw some Henckels knives that were selling at only 2 for $48! Very good bargain! (pardon me for sounding like an auntie) Henckels' stuff are usually very expensive, a can opener cost a whopping $98. Also saw a set of very nice stainless steel spice rack but when we went to the cashier, we nearly fainted. I swear there were at least 100 people in that queue! In the end I had to give up those knives and spice rack :(. Guess I will have to go back another day when it is less crowded but then there won't be the extra 10% off already (*auntie alert*). Next up will be the Robinson's private sale in Nov/Dec.
In the end we went to Isetan Orchard where Topshop was having 20% storewide and Mango 10% storewide. Bought a top from each shop. Coincidentally, both are white.
Sweater from Mango but I bought the white one. I intend to bring this when we go over to visit Hubby in Jan 09. It will be winter then and this will come useful.
Speaking of which, we will be spending our CNY'09 with Hubby in Taipei and this time round I definitely want to go grape picking in Changhua! This will be the first time we spend our CNY overseas.
Can't wait for Jan 09 to come =)

Operation Smile

pensive
An excerpt from the website:
'Founded in 1982, Operation Smile, headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, is a worldwide children's medical charity whose network of global volunteers are dedicated to helping improve the health and lives of children and young adults. Since its founding, Operation Smile volunteers have treated more than 115,000 children born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.
Cleft lips and cleft palates are the 4th largest birth defect in the world. 1 of 500 in developing countries is born with correctable facial deformities. Around the world, 200,000 children are born each year with a facial deformity. Today, tens of thousands remain untreated. Facial deformities are often life-threatening and emotionally traumatizing; many children are unable to eat or speak; some are even kept out of school.'
I really hope that more people can be aware of this..

Weight Gain Project
Jul. 26th, 2008 | 11:13 pm
location: Home
mood:
guilty
I am on a weight gain project... against my own will. Ever since after the wedding, I seemed to be letting myself go out of control in terms of food intake. Ugh. No matter how much I remind myself to control, control and control, it doesn't seems to work. It doesn't help when my husband LOVES to eat too. Even my colleague commented that I've put on some weight *depressed*. I guess it is time to bring out the jogging shoes already.
Since we are on the topic of food, we went to Tampopo to celebrate our 5.5years cum 1 month wedding anniversary on Monday!
My salmon don. One of the nicest salmon don I've tried. Comes with a thick piece of tamago and pickles too. I like.
Hubby's beef curry rice in stone pot. Concept is like the korean bibimbap, the food remains piping hot throughout your meal.
The famous kurobuta tonkatsu. The external part was crispy while meat was very tender and not oily. The yellow mustard-lookalike thingy at the corner is actually wasabi.
Dessert time!
One of their bestselling cakes but I don't like it coz it has cheese.
My mochi which tasted more like jelly. Kinda disappointed with the presentation.
Total bill was $70+. We'll definitely visit Tampopo again to try the other dishes, esp the black pig ramen!
We didn't know what to do today (married life is boringggggg), so after walking around Bugis/Suntec/Marina area, we headed down to the revamped Downtown East. Wanted to go Kbox but I was unwilling to fork out $48 for 4 hours of singing. So after doing some grocery shopping at NTUC, we went for dinner at Fresh Bulgoggi, which is something like Seoul Garden except that it is not buffet style but ala carte.
Our Premium Set C (Chicken Breast Meat, Beef Bulggogi, Chicken Bulggogi and Sliced Beef) for 2. Not knowing that the set comes with a variety of vegetable which included the golden mushroom, we ordered another serving of it -_-.
The computerised self-order system. This system is way better than Sakae's. After clicking on the 'Call for Bill' function, they actually showed you the total bill which I found was pretty helpful.
Hubby will be on duty tomorrow so I will be going home in the morning. Mum suggested going for high-tea, how to 减肥 like that???

We are back!
Jun. 29th, 2008 | 10:43 pm
mood:
tired
After a year of preparation, the wedding was over in just a day and now we are back from our honeymoon! 7 days and 6 nights seemed too short! Still have not received any photos from my friends and photographer yet. Thanks to the bunch of great 姐妹s and 兄弟s, we enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Hubby even conspired with the 姐妹s and 兄弟s to give me a surprise during the banquet. They made Hubby sing 小薇 (with the lyrics modified by my 姐妹s) right in front of everybody while the 兄弟s danced behind. I was extremely touched coz Hubby is usually too shy to sing and it was the first time I hear him sing. My best friend Wendy also gave a speech and I nearly teared.
I'm still trying hard to get used to staying with Hubby and his family but I miss my own family a lot... Kept crying on my first night staying with Hubby. Can't wait to move back when Hubby goes to TW! Luckily I have an understanding Hubby who said I can go back home and stay every weekend =) and yesterday we really went back to my mum's place to sleep.
Will update with photos in the next entry! It's Monday again *groan*

Finally.....Done!

happy
The long weekend was a very hectic one.
Saturday, 31 May
Met Hubby for breakfast at TM after his duty. We went to Swensons again (sinful!!!) but no pics this time coz we were too hungry. After breakfast we sent our wedding bands to Lee Hwa for them to repolish and replate coz Hubby's band was badly scratched. After that we went back to Hubby's house to pack his room. Was supposed to go to the Robinson sale at Expo to get some stuff but coz I wasn't feeling too well in the afternoon so we shelved the plan. In the evening, I went to meet my Jiemeis for dinner at TM's Fish n Co. We had a fun time discussing the ways to 'torture' the guys! Haha.. After dinner, we adjourned to this mini-pub at Century Sq. for drinks. As usual, I refused to order any alcoholic drinks (coz alcohol contains lotsa calories!!!) and they were exasperated.
Sunday, 1 Jun
Went to Parkway Parade with Hubby to buy some necessities. As there was a sale going on at Isetan, we managed to get 2 bras, 5 underwear for me, 5 for Hubby at $130 only! Cheap cheap eh! We also went to get some clothes hangers at Giant. After that, Father came to pick us up and off we went to AMK Hub coz Mum wanted to bring my jewellery to Tianpo for them to replate. At AMK Hub,Father got this for me!
Sony Ericsson K850i.
Think Father is sick of me always complaining how lousy my Samsung U700 was. Come to think of it, this is the first time in 5 (6?) years that I'm using a phone from a brand other than Samsung. Samsung's U700 was such a disappointment. After reaching home, Mum, Dad and I busied ourselves with the Guo Da Li's stuff, tying red ribbons, preparing the pillows, bolster, quilt.
Monday, 2 Jun
The day is here! Day for Guo Da Li and An Chuang. Shall let the pics do the talking here.
(L) Basket of Gifts (oranges, some teochew candies, pinjin, angpows and jewellery) from the in-laws. (R) 龙凤烛
(L) The ang pow on the top is the 聘金,the one on the right hand side is for my granda, as for the 2 on the left, 1 is to represent the 猪脚罐 and the other is to thank my mum for bringing me up. (R) 四点金 (I'm a teochew).
The cakes from Pine Garden
Mum and my Aunt discussing how much to give back.
Returning part of the 聘金, $ for 猪脚罐 and another 2 ang pows for Hubby.
Return of gifts. 2 bottles of orange squash in return for 2 bottles of hard liquor.
That marks the end of the Guo Da Li. Will post pics of the An Chuang process tomorrow. It is nearing 12am already and wayyy past my bedtime! Anyway, got these 2 today!
Thanks Mum and Sis! *Muacks*

Very Pissed!!!
May. 25th, 2008 | 10:13 pm
mood:
pissed off
I am extremely pissed with Co'zy Bed Gallery.
They were supposed to deliver our wardrobe and bed yesterday. When I called them on Thurs to confirm that the furniture will be coming on Saturday, they told me yes, they will arrive between 2pm to 4pm. But by 4.30pm only the bed came n and the wardrobe still had not arrive. When I called them they had the cheek to tell me that due to some "miscommunication" between the store and factory, they have not fabricate my wardrobe!! WTH! The sales person who served us previously even had the cheek to raise his voice at me and talk to me using an impatient tone. I'm extremely pissed with them. We will never ever patronise them again. Lousy company!
The equally lousy bed.
This weekend has been a tiring one. This is the first time I had to assemble my own furniture. The bedside table, TV rack and computer rack are all ready, now we are just waiting for the wardrobe to arrive. It had better come punctually this Saturday coz our GDL and An Chuang is on the following Monday.
On a happier note, my dearest Sister has finally graduated! Mum and I went to attend her graduation ceremony last Thursday and we are very proud of her =)
(Yea.. I'm shorter than my sis tho I'm 5 years older)
(Pic is very blur coz we were seating quite far back)
Another 25 days to go.. I hope things will go well.
